In what was expected to be a premier match up, Canyon Spring running back Donnel Pumphrey helped make it a one sided affair as he exploded for 342-yards and 5 touchdowns to carry the Pioneers to a 47-6 opening night victory.

Pumphrey made it look easy scoring on the first play of three drives. In the contest, the San Diego St commit scored from 41, 73, 70, 57 and 91 yards out with a ridiculous per carry average on the game as few defenders showed the ability to maintain a decent angle once he made it to the second level.

Just as amazing was the Canyon Springs defense as they controlled the game from the start despite facing one of the area's top quarterbacks in Drew Doxtator. Beyond a quality drive midway through the second quarter where Doxtator found fellow star Tyler Morris from 19-yards out, the Pioneer defense stayed a step ahead of the Falcons the rest of the way coming up with two interceptions including one returned 86-yards for a score by linebacker Tobias Carson.

In game one the Falcons will be looking for answer after this one while the Pioneers may have struck fear in the heart of the rest of the city.
