At Mojave High School, the battle between the Rattlers and the Eagles featured two of the area's top running backs. It was Boulder City's Xavier Steele provided the initial fireworks but junior Ty Flanagan showed why he may land in the nation's elite as a senior.
With Boulder City grabbing the ball first, Steele got loose as he came off the right side before cutting back appearing to be stopped when he rolled over the defender before sprinting to the end zone for a 63-yard touchdown.
From, there Flanagan went to work in the first quarter.
On his first carry, he exploded for a 50-yard carry setting himself up for a 2-yard score.
On the next Mojave drive, they were pinned deep taking over the ball at their own 5. Flanagan, would proceed to showcase the speed and power that has makes him a star as he broke several tackles before exploding into the open field covering 99 yards for a score.
Up 14-6, Mojave poured it on from there as a pitch to the right would spring standout DeAndre Armstrong for a 34-yard score.
The Rattlers would get a huge sack and fumble recovery by Lorenzo Guerrero at the 28 that would allow quarterback Zack Arave to get in the mix. Arave would hit Davion Fletcher and Duane McCarthy for two more scores as Mojave rolled to a commanding 34-6 lead before the fourth quarter.
An explosive run by Steele would set up a Sam Woodbury run midway through the fourth quarter but the Rattlers would close scoring with under a minute left with a blocked punt for a score locking in an impressive 40-12 opening game win.
Steele would impress as he averaged over 14-yards per carry topping 100-yards on the night but Flanagan stole the show rushing for over 200-yards and 2-scores to open his junior campaign.
