Turnovers and penalties doomed Silverado as they backed into the playoffs with a 28-6 loss to Green Valley Gators with only seeding on the line.
In a contest where the Skyhawks could never sustain momentum, the Skyhawks played to a 0-0 tie with #1 seed before mistakes would change the outcome. Opening the second quarter, the Skyhawks came up with a big fourth down stop of the Gators and looked as if they would grab momentum but a fumble and a personal foul penalty would cause a big shift. With a short field, Albert Lake would score from 5-yards out early in the second quarter to push the Gators into the lead.
The next drive would see the Skyhawks pound it out on the ground but another fumble would place the ball in the Gators hands again. After a 3-yard run by Larry Norman, the Gators would find themselves up 14-0 midway through the second quarter.
The Skyhawks would grab momentum to close the half after two big reception by Austin Hunt would allow them to move quickly down to the 10-yard line but from there the Skyhawks would stall. A penalty and a couple of failed passes would see them come up empty as the closed the half scoreless.
The second half would allow the Gators to gain control. A 55-yard run by Lake would set up another Gator score early in the third quarter. A 3-yard pass from Christian Lopez to Kyler Chavez would give the Gators a 21-0 lead at the seven minute mark of the third quarter.
Silverado would have another chance to close the gap but yet another fumble ended the threat 2-yards from the end zone with 10:40 left in the fourth quarter.
The Skyhawks next possession would continue the trend as a short pass would land in the the hands of Lake and he would advance the ball into the redzone. Norman would once again take the ball into the endzone this time from 8-yards out as the Gators grabbed a 28-0 lead.
The Skyhawks would finally get on board with a 45-yard reception by Hunt off of a halfback pass by Armani Jones-Sailor but it was too little too late as the Skyhawks fell 28-6.
