October 10, 2009 At Las Vegas, the Wildcats completely dominated the Chaparral Cowboys enroute to an easy victory despite not having star quarterback Hasaan Henderson or wide receiver Marquan Major to lean on. The Wildcats scored first on a 25-yard touchdown run by junior Cameron Rodgers as the sliced through the Cowboys defense early. The Cowboys showed signs of life however after a nearly blocked punt by the Wildcats, Breonte Griffin pulled the ball down and ripped off a big run for the first down. Soon after, running back Greg Tucker would sneak around the left side for a 10-yard score but that was all she wrote. The Wildcat defense woke up to completely dominate the rest of the game disrupting the Chaparral offense and flying to the football. The next kickoff after the touchdown went for an 85-yard score as Dee Hall was nearly tripped up but broke out of the pack to give the Wildcats a 14-6 lead. After a quick three and out deep in Wildcat territory, the Wildcats blocked a punt coming off the right side of the line before it was recovered in the end zone by defensive end Dominique Smith making it 21-6 to close the first quarter. In the second quarter, Matoi Pearson took a 1-yard carry on a quick three play drive to push the score up another seven. That was followed by another quick Riyaad Nevins touchdown from quarterback Tim Daniels from 48-yards out. Another quick score by Mike Glenn gave the Wildcats a 42-6 halftime lead as they rolled the rest of the way to a 56 to 6 victory. Amazingly, there was little physical difference between the team off the field but on the field there was no contest as it appeared the Wildcats sucked the fight out of the beleaguered Cowboys and never looked back. |
