Gorman logs their fourth straight state title

Sporting silver helmets, the Bishop Gorman Gaels completed the trend of the 2012-13 postseason by winning their fourth straight large school state title in a row. Led by a monster offense and stingy defense, the Gaels let no doubt about who has the best team in Nevada this football season.

Riding high off a dominating performance in the Sunrise Championship game where star Kaimana Nacua logged seven touchdowns, the Liberty Patriots came out strong on the first drive sparks by an opening play completion to Nacua before driving down field to take a 3-0 lead on a 48-yard kick but the Gaels would showcase from there.

With a his elite set of skills, Gaels star running back carried Gorman early bouncing back from a fumble on his first carry to score on 20 and 24-yard runs on the next two possessions by the Gaels as they stormed out to a 14-3 lead.

The Gaels were in the driver's seat of the contest after a turnover gave them the ball at the 9-yard line of Liberty. The series would almost lead to a turning point in the game as the Patriot's Jarvis Polu would key a big first down sack before Preston Pavlica picked off Anu Solomon at the 4-yard line sparking a Liberty surge. Nacua was help close the gap with a 6-yard run making the score 14-10 with 7:13 left in the second quarter.

From there, Solomon woke up to finish his record breaking career hooking up with the speedy Ryan Smith from 35-yards out following that completion with a 78-yard toss to tight end Alize Jones to close out the first half taking a 28-10 lead into halftime.

The second half was all Gaels with Smith hooking up with Jones on a fake field goal to open the half. A quick fumble recovery would lead to a 12-yard toss by Solomon to leading receiver Jamir Tillman.

Add in a classic career finishing 54-yard toss by Solomon to Smith and a 55-yard run by 2010 breakout star Justin Sweet, the Gaels owned a 56-10 lead less than 20-seconds into the fourth quarter.

Coming out to the field one last time to start the next drive, the explosive trio of Solomon, Smith and Tillman would leave the field to a standing ovation as they turned the torch over to next season's star quarterback in the Randall Cunningham. He didn't disappoint as he ran the ball in from 18 yards out to close the scoring with the Gaels running away to a 63-10 victory marking the end of the career of the most productive quarterback in state history and the only quarterback to ever lead his team to a state championship title in every season on campus.

It also continued the current trend as every football champion this season had won at least three straight title. That goes with Pahranagat Valley (4 straight), Pershing County (3 straight), Truckee (4 straight) and Bishop Gorman (4) all running away with dominating victories.
