Nevadans gearing up for Phoenix UA Camp
With the spring right around the corner with college programs expected to begin looking in on their recruiting targets, the opportunity to compete to be among the elite starts next weekend with the Rivals Under Armour Camp Series kicking off in Arizona and Los Angeles.
The event will be a showcase of talent with players competing in the event from as far away as Washington and Kansas but headlining the event will be talented athletes from Arizona, Nevada and Utah.
The deepest position in Nevada with players reregistered to attend is quarterback. Nearly every major quarterback in the state is expected to attend with risers Hunter Fralick (Spanish Springs), Morgan Dirickson[/db] (Churchill County) and Drew Doxtator (Foothill) all looking to cement their position in the region.
Underclassmen Christian Lopez (Green Valley) and Danny Hong, returning from a year at Westlake are also expected to be among the headliners with a very deep group of passers from Washington and Arizona.
Antraye Johnson (Basic), Xavier Steele (Boulder City), Jayveon Taylor (Bonanza) and Malik Davis (Desert Pines) are among a group sleeper running back prospects that have standing invites to the event that have yet to commit to attending. Nevada features a deep group of athletes at the running back position this season but all have a lot to prove on the football field beyond Nathan Starks after he dominated the off-season camps as a sophomore .
Headlining the wide receiver position is Nevada top pass catcher in the 2014 and 2015 class with Tim Hough (Desert Pines) and Marcus Parker (Mojave) expected to attend. They will be joined by Austin Cooper, the son of Canyon Spring's head coach Hunkie Cooper.
The highlight of any major football camp is the one-on-one battles in the trenches and there will be a great group representing the state. Green Valley offensive tackle Tyrell Crosby is on the verge of pushing into elite status nationally.
Finalizing the list of Nevadan set to attend is Canyon Springs star cornerback Diamante Luna. Luna is a player that has the potential to also be among the regional elite and brings great speed to the table.
With the camp being the only off-season event tied to a major recruiting site, the Under Armour Camp Series is set to be the elite camp in the region for years to come with the most exposure culminating with the Rivals 5-Star and Underclass Challenge.
Like in basketball, the off-season is where a players body of work comes together to push you among the top allowing a player to separate from just being considered good to be considered as great.
Providing an even playing field, look for great coverage by the Rivals Network as the recruiting process for the 2014 class is set to kick off. The Rivals Under Armour Series is limited to the elite players in the region, to see if you have an invite or to inquire about attending the event next week at Hamilton HS in Arizona, contact NevadaPrepReport@yahoo.com.
