Nevada 2018 Uncommitted Defensive Skill Prospects to Watch

Several Nevada defensive skill players have developed into honors standouts this season on every level of four year college football with a new group still waiting to see where their future will land in the coming month.

Here is a look at some of those players who stood out on the football field in the 2018 Class:

49 tackles 9 tfl 5.5 sacks

A star at Centennial HS his senior season, Oto stood out as an outstanding athlete at the linebacker position. Well developed with great tackling skill and the ability to get after the quarterback make Oto a player to watch after earning All-Conference honors.

41 tackles 9.5 tfl 2.5 sacks

A former Rancho Ram, Wabanimke looks and plays fast on the field with the height and bulk desired at the linebacker position. He has the ability to deliver big hits and make plays behind the line of scrimmage. He lacks the big offers but should be a very productive player at the four year level and also earned All-Conference honors this season.

High School

100 tackles 6 sacks 2 int

The most dominant defensive player on Gaels football team, Ulofoshio made a seamless transition to linebacker this season after a great year as defensive end as a junior. He is a heavy hitter that locates the ball and brings outstanding energy and speed on defense.

59 tackles 11 sacks

Highly instinctive with great production and few missed steps, Garcia brings physicality and energy off the edge with make plays behind the line of scrimmage. He does a great job shedding blocks and navigating traffic to locate the ball carrier as well as doing a great job making plays in space.

Speed, quickness and aggressiveness; Powell brings it all on the field diagnosing plays quickly consistently making plays behind the line of scrimmage. A key to the #2 defense in Nevada, Powell is lack of height is his biggest draw back but he brings outstanding physical ability from the position.

82 tackles 4 sacks

A prototype body with great athletic ability, Ordunez does a great job reading a reacting with the ability to close on the ball quickly. With has very good speed he has the ability to track the ball in pursuit and and is a physical tackler with the ability to also transition to defensive end in the future as well.

40 tackles 4 sacks 2 int

Physically strong and with great instincts, Thomson is a well developed player that does a great job taking on blocks at the point of attack. He’s adept at defending the run and the pass with good pass rushing skills.

32 tackles 12 sacks

A tweener defensive lineman that has been a very productive pass rusher, Schmitz is physical at the line of scrimmage with great strength and quickness. He shows the speed and athleticism to play linebacker in the future with a developed body.

6 int (13 rec 207 yards 15.9 avg 4 tds)

An excellent leaper with long arms and great hands, Miller is a very dangerous defender in the secondary that can is excellent in single coverage. He plays with great energy and is excellent tracking the ball with great tackling skills as well. With physical upside and position versatility, Miller has the ability to be an impact player quickly.

38 tackles 1 sack 4 int

An outstanding overall athlete, Bell is highly confident in the secondary with excellent awareness and the ability to bring physicality in coverage. A sure tackler, he does a great job dropping the ball carrier and has the ball skills to create turnovers.

32 tackles 4 int

An athlete with great size, Ware has playmaking skills in the secondary. He has to develop more consistency coverage but he can develop into a future standout.

36 tackles 1 sack 7 int

Emerging as the most productive player in the Gaels secondary, Lee is a physical tackler that does a great job getting downhill versus the run and takes excellent angles to the football. He also shows a knack for big plays in coverage maintaining great position and doing a great job reading plays.

4 int (7 rec 123 yards 17.5 avg 2 tds)

An instinctive player in the secondary that brings aggressiveness versus the run and great ball skills. With impressive quickness and speed, Bailey is a great in man coverage and is smooth transitioning in zone coverage showing physical upside with a raw frame.

An excellent athlete, Edward is a versatile defender in the secondary that can develop at safety or corner in the future. He brings good size and length in the secondary with strong tackling ability as well as good energy. Edwards was one of the top performers at the Las Angeles Rivals New Speed Combine.

38 tackles (26 rec 344 yards 13.2 avg 3 tds)

Aggressive in coverage with a great frame, Phillips is an impressive athlete with length and good hands in the secondary. He isn’t a big hitter but brings good tackling skills and has room to continue to add muscle.

90 tackles 4 sacks 2 int

Ultra-physical with excellent form tackling ability and good speed, Foster lacks the height but has proven to be an excellent football player. He is strictly a strong safety styled player that plays best near the line with the instincts to overcome his height limitations.
