Top Nevada Defensive Back prospects to watch in 2019

In 2018, 15 Nevada defensive backs signed with NCAA programs with 21 defensive backs signing with 4-year programs overall. The 2019 class should be strong once again with 7-players already holding offers from 4-year programs.

18 tackles 4 int

A major standout on the edge as a junior, Kelly is also the top Nevada sprinter in his class as one of the fastest defensive backs in the nation. Well built with long arms and elite lower body explosion, he is capable of developing into an elite player in coverage showing outstanding hips.

He is currently on of the most highly coveted defensive backs on the west coast.

22 tackles 3 int (2016)

A rising star at Bishop Gorman as a sophomore, Oliver missed last season landing as a transfer at Faith Lutheran. A speedy player with great feet and quickness, he should hit the ground running as a senior on a very talented defense.

Oliver holds five offer entering the summer.

An explosive player with great change of direction and acceleration, Bolin has the ability to be a star on either side of the ball though he projects as a cornerback..

Foster lacks great size but he is a great pure football player that can do it all on the field with great quickness and burst. He is a great player in space on offense that can create big plays with the football. He is also a great tackler on defense that plays with a chip and does a great job in coverage. Foster should be one of the most productive players in the state as a senior.

Safety Prospects

30 tackles 3 int 2 sacks

Committed to UNLV, Fiaseu is a high energy playmaker on the field. An excellent tackler, he has the ability to attack up field and also has great feet in coverage. With great versatility, he has the ability to also develop as a linebacker off the edge in college though he projects to remain in the secondary.

54 tackles 3 int (27 rec 395 yards 14.6 avg 4 tds)

Blakely has a great frame with huge physical upside and good hands with the ball in the air. He stood out as a sprinter this track season showing much improved speed that should transfer to the football field in a major way as a senior.

With an offer from Air Force secure, look for Blakely to be a major riser as a senior.

59 tackles 2 int 1 sack

A strong openfield tackler that does a great job tracking the football, McKenzie shows awareness and very good speed in the secondary. He is a well built defender with great physical upside and impressive awareness versus the pass.

Defensive Backs

39 tackles 2 int 1 sack

A large defensive back with long arms and great athleticism, Winters has outstanding versatility with the ability to play anywhere in the defensive backfield as well as being an elite punter. He is a great tackler in space with excellent coverage skills showing the ability to be a force on the edge.

With offers from Army and Northern Arizona, Winters should continue to garner more attention as a senior.

24 tackle 2 int

A physical corner with impressive ball skills, Scafeti is one of Nevada’s top returning player in the secondary this season. He is a good tackler on the edge with the ability to also transition to corner or safety in college. Look for him to gain options this upcoming seasons.

38 tackles 3 int

Another standout in the Crusader secondary, Touchstone is an energy player in the defensive backfield with great instincts that allows his to make big plays. Another strong tackler, he has good size and overall speed as a player to watch.

Top Underclass Prospects to Watch   

17 tackles 1 int

Set to emerge, look for Tuioti to develop into one of the Gaels elite juniors.

With great physicality and athleticism, Kaho can develop as a safety or linebacker who should emerge as a star this season.

Other Prospects to Watch

83 tackles 1 sack 2 sacks (379 yards 8 tds rushing)

Highly productive in the Raiders’ secondary, Robertson is best playing close to the line of scrimmage showing great awareness in run support. He has the ability to cover in space with good speed and agility showing to the ability maintain good position in coverage.

10 tackles

Seeing time as a junior, Glover has good ability and should emerge as a standout as a senior.

17 tackles 2 int

A standout athlete, Walden is set to take on a bigger role for the Bulldogs as a senior with the physical skills to garner attention.

Transitioning to a starting role on defense, Brown is a is a good athlete that will look to emerge as a playmaker.
