UNLV commit Tauli'ili & vertical jump champ Montez key Chap vs Coronado:STG

In the contest between Chaparral and Coronado, Coronado’s depth led to a 40-21 victory on the night. With physical talent on display for both programs, here is a look at the standouts:

Emerging as an athlete to watch as a sophomore quarterback, Tauli’ili made the position switch as a senior standing as a dangerous weapon on either side of the football. Offensively, he is a physical player wit the ball in his hands with a smooth stride and impressive speed. With strong hands, he is a play-maker in the passing game and has the ability to carry the ball as a rushing threat.

Defensively, he is physical linebacker that has the ability to make plays in coverage as well as get after the passer on the blitz. Able to quickly diagnose plays, he has big play skills versus the run making several stops behind the line of scrimmage.

A UNLV commit, Taui’ili is a lesser known player on the national level but projects as an outstanding defender on the next level that can emerge as a linebacker.

Settling in as a go-to pass catcher, Montez has blossomed as a senior putting his nearly 43-inch vertical leaping ability to work. With standout speed, Montez has shown the ability to be a very effective route runner with the physicality to be a standout blocker on the edge. With great hands and a strong upper body, he has the ability to play through contact and is capable of hauling in contested balls as well as develop into a deep threat.

A late bloomer, Montez lacks offers but he is a very talented player with outstanding physical tools. He is a player that can develop into a force on the next level.


Another three year standout for the Cowboys, Torres is a turnover magnet from the safety position showing the ability to maintain great position in coverage and dislodge the ball as a strong hitter in the open field. Strong in run defense with great form as a tackler, Torres has the ability to get downhill in a hurry and does a great job tracking the football.

Racking up nine interceptions as a senior, Torres is very good overall football player with great instincts that can continue to develop into an impact player on the collegiate level.

A sophomore defensive end, Nnakenyi showcased the tool to develop into an outstanding pass rusher off the edge with quickness, burst and raw speed. An effort player, he also shows the ability to standout as a run defender showing the ability to maintain leverage and make plays down the line in pursuit.

With two years to develop, Nnakenyi will be a prospect to watch this off-season that can rack up offers with a strong spring.


Hawkins is a player with average size but brings great production and instincts at the linebacker position along with impressive athletic talent. A strong tackler, he is an instinctive player that can read and diagnose plays showing a knack for locating the ball behind the line of scrimmage. He brings the tools to be an effective pass defender as well while playing with passion on the football field.

RB Chris Avila Coronado 5’5 145 (2022)

A sophomore, Avilla is an aggressive runner with acceleration and quickness out of the backfield. He shows the ability to slip into open space and has good hands as a receiver as well.


DE Adam DiMaio Coronado 6’2 235 (2021)

Showing good awareness, DiMaio had three key big plays in the contest as a steady player off the edge. With good size, he will be a player that can emerge as a strong prospect as a senior.


LB Mark Skelton Coronado 6’1 180 (2021)

60 tackles 4 sacks

Racking up big plays off the edge in the contest, Skelton had a dominant game showing the ability to rush the passer and make plays in space. With another off-season to continue to develop, he showed indication he is capable of making big noise as a senior.


LB Haratio Maumasi Coronado 6’4 230 (2021)

60 tackles 1 sack

A large frame inside linebacker, Maumasi is a good looking athlete in general that has been productive on the field this year. He lacked the big play in the contest but looks the part physically.


Chaparral

QB Damari White Chaparral 6’2 200 (2021)

Showing potential from the quarterback position, White has a good arm and impressive athletic ability with the speed to produce big plays with his legs.


DL Raul Meza Chaparral 6’4 225 (2021)

Undersized as a nose guard and tackle in the contest, Meza is a player that displays good foot speed in space with the frame to transition into a strong senior.

Coronado

QB Keegan Tharp Coronado 6’2 185

A ball distributor from the pocket, Tharp is a good passer that brings a good arm and the ability to spread the ball around at all levels of the field. He has the ability to get good placement on his passes and anticipates well. Although his interception numbers are high, he shows the ability to be a leader and game manager with good physical size as a prospect.


OG Riley Danielson Coronado 6’1 325

A bulky offensive guard, Danielson is a good prospect that is an effective overall blocker with the potential to be a very aggressive player in the run game.


DE/TE Seth Burdo Coronado 6’3 205

An athlete with very good raw speed, Burdo is a prospect with upside in the future as a player to watch


S Ayzayah Hartfield Coronado 6’1 175

A well rounded athlete that shows the willingness to be physical as a tackler, Hartfield is a good safety prospect that could transition to linebacker in the future.


S R.J. Edwards Coronado 6’1 185

97 tackles 2 sacks 2 int

Edwards didn’t make a lot of noise in the contest but has had a productive season with good instincts pursuing the football.


Chaparral

WR Alsamir Ceasar Chaparral 6’0 170

Hauling in two impressive deep ball while showing the ability to produce big plays in space, Ceasar is a smooth player with very good top speed. Adding good size to the equation, he is a great small school prospect that can emerge as a productive player on the edge.


CB Jesus Casamayor Chaparral 5’11 170

Casamayor didn't have a game-breaker level contest but he has showcased his suddenness on the field and has big play ability in space. Primarily a corner in the contest, he will continue to be a player to watch whenever he lands after high school.
