Nevada 2016: All-Prospect Team

With the final stretch of the recruiting season upcoming over the next month for the 2016 class, many player will be hitting the road to visit college programs in January. With a large amount of late bloomers in Nevada, many are still looking for their first offer but this class could see a record number of overall signees.

Offense

QB Connor Richardson Churchill County 6'1 190 (#39)

202/297 68% 2757 yards 34 tds 9 int (565 yards 7 tds rushing)

A wide receiver/defensive back as a junior, Richardson took over the reigns at quarterback to lead his team to a Nevada title. With good arm strength and great accuracy, he finished tied for first in passing touchdown with 34 while completing a state best 68% of his passes. He also finished second in passing yards with a 1A record 2788-yards with a total of 3373-yards 41-touchdowns as a senior.

Being a rural Nevadan has kept him off off the radar of larger schools but he has NAIA offers from College of Idaho and Eastern Oregon.

RB Naim Geeslin Legacy 5'11 205 (#6)

144 car 1374 yards 9.5 avg 16 tds (2 rec 30 yards 1 td)

Physically the strongest running back on the west coast and possibly the nation, Geeslin took over as full time starter showcasing outstanding balance along with the ability to rip through tackler for big plays. Despite a scheduled heavy with title contenders, Geeslin constantly produced big plays including a 21-car 140-yard 1-touchdown game against Bishop Gorman.

He has an offer from D2 program Colorado Mesa and should make an immediate impact wherever he lands.

RB Justice Jackson Foothill 5'9 185 (#31)

232 car 1442 yards 6.2 avg 23 tds (10 rec 82 yards 0 tds)

Owning a great name, Jackson turned it on as a senior showing great all around skill as a blocker, runner and pass catcher. He lacks great speed but he is an efficient runner with good feet, vision and patience.

The state's #3 rusher, Jackson hasn't garnered his first offer but he is a player to watch as school visit the area in January.

WR R.J. Hubert Moapa Valley 6'0 180 (#1)

41 rec 781 yards 19.0 avg 9 tds/74 car 728 yards 9.8 avg 9 tds

The most individually dominant player in the state, Hubert is an outstanding football player that was a one man wrecking crew for the 1A runner up Pirates. He has the speed and open field ability to be an immediate impact player in college. He is a major deep threat that can get over the top of a defense and while also being an elite return man that is extremely dangerous in the anytime he gets his hands on the ball.

A commit to the Utah Utes, Hubert led the state with 31-touchdowns as a senior. He is expected to go on a Mormon mission after high school.

WR/DB Devion Clayton Silverado 6'4 190 (#5)

43 rec 741 yards 17.2 avg 7 tds

The state's top returning sprinter that clocked in with a 10.65 100m as a junior, Clayton transition from top corner to elite pass catcher after transferring to Silverado to play under former NFL All-Pro quarterback Randall Cunningham. He has the body control to adjust to poorly thrown ball and is also one of the elite leaper that can pluck the ball at its highest point.

Owning the best size/speed combination of any pass catcher in the nation, Weber State and Southern Utah have been the first programs to offer a scholarship.

WR Isiah Macklin Green Valley 6'5 195 (#17)

33 rec 554 yards 16.7 avg 6 tds

Macklin missed time to injury but he stepped in to be a playmaker late in the season that makes him a high ceiling player to watch in college. Macklin has outstanding size and showed outstanding athletic ability during the spring camp/combine season.

A San Diego State commit, Macklin is a player that has the physical skills to be a star.

TE Parker Houston Reed 6'4 230 (#12)

41 rec 338 yards 9.0 avg 6 tds (5 car 50 yards 3 tds)

A strong blocker and high volume pass catcher at tight end, Houston is a sure handed player that can snag the ball in traffic and make plays down the seam. With great size, he is a physical ball carrier that can absorb contact and has been a major threat in the red zone.

Also a San Diego State commit, Houston will be the second player from the Northern Nevada program to land with the Aztecs.

OT/DT Tyler Roemer Fernley 6'6 280 (#9)

54 tackles 3 sacks

A rural Northern Nevadan, Roemer is well off the usual recruiting trail but is an excellent athlete at 6'6 that has excellent knee bend and the ability to maintain leverage. With quick hands and great feet, he can change direction with ease to go along with very impressive straight line speed.

With San Diego State, Louisville, Nevada and Portland State among teams that have begun to watch, Roemer should see his options open up in January.

OL Keenen King Arbor View 6'5 300 (#3)

A mobile three year starter, King is a player with great feet and the ability to pick up blocks in space. He is a very well rounded blocker that has long arms that can develop at any position along the line and has even played center for extended snaps for the Aggies.

A Washington State commit, King should have time to develop into an excellent player in the trenches for the Cougars.

OL Samuelu Poutasi Desert Pines 6'4 310 (#4)

A knee injury limited Poutasi to just two games at the end of the season but he returned to the field with lighter feet and improved overall strength. A mauler, he showcases the ability to be an excellent pass blocker as well and has excellent balance.

An Oregon commit, Poutasi will be the second of his brothers to play in the Pac 10 with his older brother Jeremiah Poutasi standing out as a rookie starter for the Tennessee Titans.

OL Julio Garcia Bishop Gorman 6'3 315 (#2)

A great looking junior, Garcia had an outstanding senior season for the Gaels as an extremely efficient and technically sound blocker. He plays with excellent strength at the point of attack with quick hands and great lower body power. Committed to his former coach Tony Sanchez at UNLV, Garcia is very capable of making an impact immediately in college.

OL Jaron Caldwell Bishop Gorman 6'3 305 (#13)

The Gaels star left tackle, Caldwell shows the ability to play with excellent leverage at the point of attack with quick feet. He is also very technically sound on the edge with excellent hand placement and footwork showing the ability to play on an island. A dominant run blocker, Caldwell uses his size and power very effectively off the snap.

Also committed to UNLV, Caldwell is also expected to play early for the Rebel program.

Defense

DL Harold Bell Arbor View 6'4 235 (#11)

59 tackles 6 sacks

Extremely quick and relentless with very impressive speed, Bell emerged as a very disruptive defender that has the ability to get pressure on the quarterback consistently. He plays with excellent leverage that allows him to stuff the run and has great instincts when tracking the ball.

After camping with Southern Utah in the summer, he recently committed and will look to develop into a high end pass rusher for the FCS contenders.

DL Derriyon Shaw Legacy 6'4 230 (#10)

49 tackles 7 sacks

A Las Vegas native by birth, Shaw transfer back to the area after staring for Lanier HS (GA) making an immediate impact for the Legacy Longhorns. Long and smooth with excellent burst, Shaw is a natural pass rusher that showcase great hands that allow him to shed blocks smoothly.

A Boise State commit, Shaw is a great pick up for the Broncos that should have time to develop into a star off the edge.

DL Anthony Smith Desert Pines 6'3 250 (#8)

Smith missed his senior season to a knee injury but he was a two year starter for the Jaguars collecting 16 sacks for the program as a junior. With a nonstop motor, he has the versatility to play on the inside of the edge in college.

A recent Colorado State commit, Smith has outstanding upside and should find his niche in the Rams defense to develop into an excellent player

DL Nick Gregg Reed 6'0 305 (#7)

62 tackles 8 sacks 1 int

A three year starter, Gregg is a rock in the middle of the line at nose guard that can tie up multiple blocker. He does a great job taking on double team to locate the football while being an effective pass rusher as well.

A commit to Nevada, Gregg has the physical skills be an immediate contributor in college.

LB Chauntez Thomas Palo Verde 6'1 230 (#15)

54 tackles 3 sacks

A large and speedy linebacker, Thomas is a playmaker behind the line of scrimmage with the versatility to also play with a hand in the ground as a defensive end. He has the ability to shed blocks with ease with smooth acceleration along with great top end speed. He is a relentless player in pursuit that also has good instincts in pass coverage.

Thomas is a player that will make a huge impact wherever he lands, he currently has a D2 offer and has seen many FBS schools stop in to visit.

LB Teyjean Thomas Basic 6'2 220 (#16)

114 tackles 7 sacks 2 int (3 tds)

With great size and instincts, Thomas is a player that turned potential into production as a senior carrying that Wolves to the Sunrise Championship game. He is a player that showed a knack for game changing plays on defense and he proved to be a very effective pass rusher. He flows down the line of scrimmage smoothly and has the ability to make plays consistently in the backfield as well as in coverage.

Thomas picked up his first test scores in the fall and will be a player to keep an eye on in January.

LB Ikem Okeke Bishop Gorman 6'0 210 (#18)

42 tackles 1 sack 1 int

One of the Gaels' top athletes on defense, Okeke missed a portion of the season but he is an athlete that has the physical skills to be a weapon on the defensive side of the ball. When on the field, does a great job reading and reacting showing the ability to attack in space. He has the speed off the edge to make plays in all facets of the game with good awareness.

Okeke has reported offers from UNLV and Nevada as well as Montana State.

LB Jeremiah Pritchard Silverado 6'1 205 (#21)

67 tackles 2 int

A transfer from the islands, Pritchard is an athlete that has the versatility to develop at safety or linebacker in the future. He is a physical player that can make plays in space and does a good job locating the football.

With four FBS offers, Pritchard is a player that should have a busy January and should develop into a standout in the future.

CB Artise McCoy Desert Pines 5'10 150 (#19)

29 tackles 1 sack 4 int

Speedy track athlete with great leaping ability and a solid frame, McCoy is an excellent corner with impressive leaping skills. With smooth hips, he is a skilled played in man coverage that shows great awareness in zone coverage as well. He is a strong tackler that can be physical versus the run he sheds blocks well.

An excellent student, he holds an offer from New Mexico Highlands could see more offers come his direction before February.

DB Alex Sims Arbor View 6'0 180 (#25)

44 tackles 9 pbu

A tall and physical corner with great ball skill, Sims is a standout player in coverage that doubles as a strong run defender. He has impressive speed and with great range as a pass defender. He shows impressive awareness with the ball in the air with the physicality to be dominant in press coverage.

Currently a commit to Southern Utah, Sims is a player that should have the opportunity to develop into standout in college.

DB Lukas McKenzie Reno 6'3 200 (#20)

32 tackles (46 car 555 yards 12.1 avg 5 tds)

A defensive back/linebacker hybrid style of player, McKenzie is a playmaker with the ball in his hands that can cover ground quickly. He is a physical tone setter on defense that can attack the ball carrier and does a good job taking on blockers.

A Fresno State commit, McKenzie could play safety or outside linebacker in college.

DB Asa Carter Carson 6'1 190 (#26)

63 tackles 3 int (68 car 706 yards 8 tds/24 rec 433 yards 7 tds)

One of the top playmakers in Northern Nevada, Carter is an all-around playmaker with outstanding hands and great tackling ability. He is a pure football player that gets downhill quickly as a runner and is also a standout on special teams. He is great at tracking the ball in coverage has very good range in the defensive backfield.

Being from Carson City, Carter isn't on the recruiting trail of major schools but he is an outstanding athlete that can be a great college football player.

Ath Richard Nelson Chaparral 6'1 205 (#14)

45 tackles 4 int 2 sacks (86 car 558 yards 10 tds/15 rac 279 yards 4 tds)

An elite athlete, Nelson did it all for the Chaparral Cowboys in carrying the program to the state playoffs playing running back, receiver, linebacker, cornerback and safety as a senior. He is a player with great feet and and excellent strength. He also has great speed that allows him to be extremely versatile on the football field. With excellent overall skill and the ability to fill several needs at a very high level in college. Nelson has a few D2 offers as well as an offer from Weber State.
