Nevada 2020 recruiting: Safety Prospects to Watch

Nevada’s 2020 safety prospects haven’t loaded up on preseason offers but there are plenty that can turn heads this season. With the season just a week away, here is a look at the key safeties to watch

32 tackles 1 int

A sure tackler with a large frame, Tuioti-Mariner is a very balanced safety prospect that does a great job reading and being in the right position to make plays. He shows the ability to be a standout run defender out of the secondary along the good overall speed and quickness.

An Air Force commit, he will be a major key for the Bishop Gorman defense as a senior.

28 tackles 2 sacks 2 int

A playmaker in the secondary with good length and great awareness, Ausage had a very productive junior season. A well rounded player, he has impressive ball skills in the secondary with great range and consistency tracking the ball. Showcasing skills as a blitzer, he also has a great frame with long term position versatility.

Holding offers from Minnesota-Duluth and Augustana, Ausage is a key prospect to watch.

A large framed safety prospect, Comcowich displays excellent ball skills and range in the secondary with smooth change of direction. He is a great open-field tackler that has great size and does a great job stuffing the run.

Comcowich enter senior year as a lesser known football prospect but he has the ability to emerge with the frame to also project to linebacker in the future.

A great pure athlete, Bellegrade can develop as a receiver but projects as a safety prospect in college. With a great, raw frame he has tremendous physical upside with great speed and range in the secondary along with standout leaping ability. With the best hands among safety prospect, he has the ability to create turnovers and is a good tackler as well

Bellegrade lacks the exposure and early offers but he is definite prospect to watch as a senior.

39 tackles 1 int

A player with surprising athleticism to go along with an impressive frame, Montez is explosive leaper that logged a 42.5 inch vertical this off-season. With a developed body, he shows the skill to be a standout tackler in the open-field along with the ability as a runner to be a threat as a return man.

Like Bellegrade, Montez didn’t play on an elite team but should be a late riser as a senior as programs get a more focused look.


Underclassmen  

91 tackles 1 int (14/17 82% 192 yards 6 tds 0 int)

A standout on either side of the ball, Kulpin is expected to be a star quarterback but showed he is also a go-get-em type of player in the secondary. Showing physicality and athletic ability, he is a key Northern Nevada prospect to watch.

37 tackles 4 int

A standout corner, Polson projects as a safety in the future showcasing great awareness and strong open field tackling skills.

51 tackles 1 int (145 yards rushing)

A strong tackler, Schneider was a sophomore standout last season that should play a big role as a junior. He has great athletic potential.

38 tackles 1 int

A super sophomore, Branch is an elite player in coverage from the safety position with outstanding athleticism change of direction. He emerged as a playmaker as a freshman and should push for elite status as a sophomore.

He holds offers from Auburn, Colorado, Boise State and UNLV.

Bernard lacks varsity snaps on the football field but put his name on the map during the camp season logging four major offers. He will be a major player to watch as a sophomore.

Other 2020 Prospects to Watch     

99 tackles 4 int

Extremely productive in the secondary, Myles is a sure open-field tackler that has great ball skills and plays to the whistle. He has the ability to garner attention with another productive season.


28 tackles 4 int

An explosive playmaker, Torres displays good foot quickness and a nose for the football in the secondary. He has great tackle technique in space and can also transition to cornerback in college.

11 tackles 2 int (915 yards 5 tds offense)

On pace for a big junior season, Alexander was forced to shift to quarterback mid-season where he had a productive year. An aggressive defender in the secondary that is equally effective versus the run or pass, he is a player to watch as a senior.

28 tackles 1 int

A standout athlete that has great speed and overall football skills. Weir lacks body length and bulk but has the chance to impress as a senior with high effort.

32 tackles (1028 yards 12 tds rushing)

A highly productive running back, Westwood projects to the safety position in college with great feet and physicality. With develop-able frame, he also has upside as a linebacker prospect.
