STG: Star studded Desert Pines talent shined versus Bishop Manogue

Both contenders, the matchup in Las Vegas between Reno's Bishop Manogue and Las Vegas' Desert Pines was a highly anticipated contest. Both teams found success but the talent loaded Desert Pines came out on top in the second half. Here is a look at the prospects to follow for the contest with game video updated to their profiles:

A prototype tight end, Washington has developed into a complete player on the edge showcasing outstanding acceleration and body control with great agility along with a well developed body. He has added the skill to create plays in the open field with long arms and great leaping ability to develop into a dominant red zone threat.

As the number two rated tight end prospect in the nation, he has offers from programs all around the country and should be an instant impact player in college.


A four-star offensive tackle, Savea proved to be dominant in the contest showcasing excellent feet with great balance and powerful hands. He has the ability to be a wall on the edge with long arms and natural knee bend the allows his to maintain excellent leverage with the athleticism to be dominant in space as well.

Holding fifteen offers from major programs around the nation, he is a player that can develop into an immediate contributor in college.


Another outstanding underclassmen that holds 9 offers, Ross is a force on the interior defensive line that shows outstanding quickness and explosion on the interior with a knack for getting to the passer. An all around playmaker, he is also an excellent run stuffer that has pursuit speed to track down the ball in space and excellent physical upside.

Ross hold three-star status with the skills to push for elite status and will have his choice of option among schools.

Lopez hasn’t grabbed the national spotlight but he has racked up eight offers and reset the Nevada career sack record with his two sack performance.

Tenacious with aggressive hands, Lopez has great burst with the ability to explode up field and get opposing tackles off balance consistently. With impressive power and lateral quickness, he is a great player versus the run as well that can shed blocks and stands out as an excellent tackler.


A sophomore passer with great size, Tagatease stood out with great accuracy and ball placement with the ability to spread the ball to all levels on the field. Well coached, he is a mechanically sound passer with the speed to make plays in space and displays the ability to scan the field to find the best option.

A transfer from Farrington (HI), Tagatease is surrounded by weapons and shows the ability to maximize their talents. He has the physical ability to rank among the nation’s top passers as a senior. He logged 308-passing yards in game one.


Underclassmen  

Desert Pines

RB Malik Brooks Desert Pines 6’2 205 (2021)

Long, smooth with great feet, Brooks made the most of his carries finding the end zone three times on just five carries averaging 12 yards per. Just a junior, he will be a player teams take a look at this season that can gain steam and currently holds a BYU offer.


RB Javantae Barnes Desert Pines 5’11 175 (2022)

Barnes produced when asked to close the door on the game, Barnes racked up yards in a hurry. He showcased impressive speed and acceleration as yet another Jaguars back that can garner next level attention in the 2022 Class.


WR Michael Jackson Desert Pines 5’11 190 (2021)

An off-season riser that starred for the Durango Trailblazers as a sophomore, Jackson has added muscle and speed over the course of the off-season. A playmaker in space, he has the ability to create plays in the open field along with great hands that allows him to be a threat on the deep ball.

Holding five early offers, he is in position for a huge junior season.


WR Jett Solomon Desert Pines (2021)

Another junior crosstown transfer, Solomon was a very productive sophomore that is another big weapon for Desert Pines who has skills in the openfield. Along with his great hands, Solomon is a smart pass catcher that has quick feet and does a great job creating separation on routes.


WR Deandre Moore Desert Pines 8’0 170 (2023)

An elite high school freshman, Moore is a physically mature player with great size and speed on the edge with advanced pass catching skills. Holding 7 major early offers, Moore could be the top pass catcher in the 2023 class.


OL Fatafehi Vailea Desert Pines 6’2 290 (2021)

A junior, Vailea is another young standout that separated himself during the contest. Facing one of the state’s top senior defensive ends, Vailea did an excellent job keeping him out of the backfield. He showcased the ability to play in space with strong hands and great balance on the along with great feet. Also a defensive tackle, Vailea has one early offer and can rack up more.


S Darien Stewart Desert Pines 6’2 2180 (2021)

A junior safety with athleticism and length, Stewart helped solidify a stingy defensive secondary and will be a player to watch.


Bishop Manogue

QB Drew Scolari Bishop Manogue 6’0 165 (2021)

Still physically maturing, Scolari is in his second season as a starter after leading Manoue to the state title game as a sophomore. He is a live passer that has the ability to make plays with his legs and displays good accuracy as a junior to watch.


OL Sioape Vatakani Bishop Manogue 6’4 285 (2022)

After a good freshman season, Vatakani displayed obvious advancement doing a great job on the left side of the line with good physicality and strong hands when engaged. He brings great balance on the edge and can handle speed rushers constantly.


ILB Jon Brown Bishop Manogue 6’0 225 (2021)

A thick linebacker that had a productive game, Brown is a junior that will look to catch some eyes.


DB Michael Schneider Bishop Manogue 5’10 150 (2021)

A speedy defensive back, Schneider has plenty of room for physical development and shows the ability to rise garner attention in the secondary,

WR Branden Thomas Desert Pines 5’10 185

The Jaguars senior pass catcher, Thomas is a downfield threat with great hand-eye-coordination and the quickness to generate yards after the catch. Highly confident, Thomas tied Washington for most receiving yards in the contest and could sneak into the mix as the most productive receiver in a deep unit. He is a player programs will have every opportunity to evaluate.


OG Joe Brown Desert Pines 6’3 320

A massive guard, Brown has good physical skills and shows good movement skills as a guard. He has to be more consistent but has good tools.


DL Jonathan Pickett Desert Pines 6’3 250

A great athlete on the edge , Pickett is a versatile defensive lineman that can develop on the edge or interior with very good speed pursuit. A quality pass rusher, Pickett has huge upside and lateral quickness.


ILB Elijah Wade Desert Pines 6’2 235

Preseason NevadaPrepReport #26 Rated Prospect

A large inside linebacker prospect with good speed and great aggression, Wade plays with energy on the inside. He has the physical versatility to transition to the edge as a defensive end as well and is a strong push rusher on the interior.


OLB Will Paden Desert Pines 6’2 210

A former Gorman defensive back, Paden used the year off to develop his body standing out as an athletic linebacker that is a playmaker and an excellent form tackler at the point of attack. He brings great physicality with the ability to locate the football and get there in a hurry. He didn’t enter the season among the higher profile prospects but he is a player programs should turn their attention to if he maintains his production this season.


Bishop Manogue

TE Curtis Luckadoo Bishop Manogue 6’6 235

A large tight end prospect, Luckadoo is a high effort blocker that shows the ability to be a productive pass catcher downfield. A player with good speed and displays strong hands, he is tradition tight end with great potential.


OT Joey Wright Bishop Manogue 6’7 310

A USC commit, Wright had trouble stale mating Lopez matching up against one of the best best defensive lines in the nation. He still showcased the ability to develop in a star in college on the edge with excellent size and overall athletic ability.


DT Jameson Helu Bishop Manogue 6’2 255

Helu didn’t have a major impact in the contest but he is a strong player in the trenches who shows the ability to be an anchor versus the run


DE Ethan Carson Bishop Manogue

A high effort defensive end, Carson is a physically strong player with good speed and shows the ability to defend versus the run.
